Well, I'm looking for some positive examples of female characters getting shit done after everything is taken away from them. I feel like romcoms - in general - are all about a woman needing love to go on and I find that pretty depressing.

And how many romcoms have a female character needing healing because somebody died? It's usually because 1) they were dumped or 2) they did the dumping.

P.S. I Love You is a good example. The story is about the main female character recovering from the death of her husband. My favourite thing about the book (I didn't see the film) was that while there were hints of romance towards the end, it didn't end and wasn't about her finding a new love to go on. It was about her healing. It's a brilliant book.

Oddly enough, Bleach's Orihime is coming to mind. I haven't read beyond the first 10 or so volumes, so I could be wrong, but her whole backstory seemed to be her brother died and she had to become strong to make him proud or something.
