What if I acknowledge that they have the right, but think they're emo anyway?

Say uhhh, my dog dies. I'd be emo for a while. But sure, during that time, I'd be emo. Justifiably so.

Still emo. >>"

Too many people don't think a character has a right to be emo and bash them.

Then again, I hate the word emo. It seems to disregard the pain a character is suffering. Even more so when it applies to a real person.

I doubt that people would say that a character that has clear reasons TO angst has NO reason to angst... they would just disagree on the amount of angst "allowed" (for lack of a better word) before it gets you know, "overdone."

But again, that's venturing into difference-of-opinion where we clearly don't agree, so. *dies*

AHAHA. You have been in the wrong fandoms then.

Say, Aang from Avatar. He is not allowed to be angry after losing a dear friend!

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
At all? *DIES* Okay, yeah, then those people are idiots. We agree on something!

[identity profile] a-white-rain.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. It's OOC for Aang to lash out!

Even though we've seen him do so before.

Wow, I love you. Someone else who can't stand that word and the implications behind it. People seem to forget that part of being human is feeling sad sometimes, that everyone has a normal scale of varying emotions. Being chastised for having an understandably emotional reaction to situations has always struck me as ridiculous. Denying fictional characters their humanity is eyeroll-worthy enough, but real people? Come on.

I've tried to accept what 'emo' is in fandom, but mostly I do not like it at all.

[identity profile] icemilk.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
The only worthy characters are characters who react to painful situations like they didn't happen at all!

I tend to think boring!
