Could have said no, maybe, but could you have been 100% sure that saying no would not have negatively affected your grades or reputation with other faculty members? That's why such relationships are at least very seriously frowned upon (if not outright forbidden), and most places will at least require notification of the relationship. Even if you had been older than the teacher, the power imbalance is still very present.

I realize this. But let's say that a 20-year old has the mental capacity to say no, to even report the man. I'm not saying they will , I'm not saying they cannot feel cornered, but they generally will have the maturity to know what is happening. A pre-teen might not even realize what sex is, r that an adult is trying to "groom" them. And in that sense they are more vulnerable.

No, I get that. I was more pointing out that the extreme age difference/underage thing and the teacher-student thing are both independently worrying, not that they are equally as bad.
