Notes:

This is not your forum to identify and call out specific people just to call them assholes. Call out general actions you find reprehensible, mod ability/inability, that kind of stuff, but once you get into what basically amounts to 'this person is a stupid bitch and here are some icons/an lj layout/add. info to identify them with' - no.

Over at Fanfiction.net Hermione and Draco lead the pack:

Harry/Draco - 24,758

Hermione/Draco - 30,173

Hermione/Harry - 18,039

Hermione/Ron - 18,599

In which I bore the crap out of you with my *~findings

Really? That's interesting... I've always thought, without a doubt that Ron/Hermione and Harry/Hermione were the two biggest ships in the HP fandom. Although, that actually makes sense: with something like thread count; well, R/Hr is canon, though not "official" until the end of the series, so the fans have more to discuss, therefore more threads, and less "need" for stories because Ron/Hermione is right there in the book, thus less fanfic. And with ships like H/D and D/Hr, it's the reverse. Or something. Also, I've noticed that D/Hr doesn't really seem to participate in ship wars. I've seen shippers post arguments and stuff for why they like the ship, but never
I've been working on a little project at fictionalley, about ship statistics and stuff, and based on the "how many threads" thing, the top five ships are
1. Ron/Hermione (137 threads)
2. Harry/Draco (8th page of 130th thread)
3. Harry/Hermione (1st page of 130th thread)
4. Draco/Hermione (112)
5. Draco/Ginny (105)

D/G surprised me; I knew it was popular, but I didn't think it was THAT popular, more than Harry/Ginny. Expand the list to Top Ten and you get

6. Harry/Ginny (103)
7. Remus/Sirius (84)
8. Harry/Luna (60)
9. James/Lily (29)
10. Remus/Tonks (21)

...after which I decided I needed a new method, because there's no way in hell J/L is more popular than Snape/Lily, it's just it's been canon since the very beginning and S/L's only been half-canon since the last book.

Anyway, thank you for that information. Maybe one day I'll compile all these statistics and make pretty graphs and stuff. Or maybe one day I'll get a life and act like a normal human being, but I don't think that's very likely.

"Also, I've noticed that D/Hr doesn't really seem to participate in ship wars. I've seen shippers post arguments and stuff for why they like the ship, but never"
blah, I'm stupid... "but never really argue against other ships. They seem to exist peacefully on their own while letting the mighty ships of H/Hr and R/Hr rage their bloody war, occasionally getting a blow in but mostly sailing happily through calmer waters. (as opposed to Neville/Hermione, which is a frickin' submarine among ships, right there beneath the surface if H/Hr and R/Hr would put down their guns and look... ahem, sorry, shipper talking)

Also I should note that I didn't include the M ratings in the others. The ones with the M rating included are this:

Harry/Draco - 42,004

Harry/Hermione - 21,568

Hermione/Draco - 41,045

Hermione/Ron - 20,582

James/Lily - 26,446

Snape/Lily - 4,360

So with the M rating Draco/Harry take the lead.

Heh heh does that make Draco the unofficial Master Pimp of Harry Potterdom?

Yeah, I usually don't find that non-canon shippers participate in shipping wars. However, I do find they are the ones that tend to bash canon character instead. Like for instance, the hate that is displayed for Ron in HG/DM or HG/HP ships.

Here is another stat for you from fanfiction.net

James/Lily - 24,538

Snape/Lily - 4,003

As far as character bashing goes, I imagine that it's frequently a pointed dislike for one half of the canon pairing that led them to the non-canon pairing (especially in the case of Ron). So that would make sense.

Like for instance, the hate that is displayed for Ron in HG/DM or HG/HP ships.

Especially when, rather than just focusing on the annoying aspects of his canon personality, they take his character to the kind of extremes Hermione would never have put up with in the first place. Case in point. (http://szaleniec1000.livejournal.com/11486.html)
