Notes:

This is not your forum to identify and call out specific people just to call them assholes. Call out general actions you find reprehensible, mod ability/inability, that kind of stuff, but once you get into what basically amounts to 'this person is a stupid bitch and here are some icons/an lj layout/add. info to identify them with' - no.

Seconding the "might make someone else's day" part.
I had major worries the first time I wrote for a fandom that I was gonna name but then I thought of spoilers, because I was apparently one of the first (if not the first, I didn't find any before me though I won't reject the idea) to actually tackle a fic that took into account a character's IS status. It was sexual, too.
I was terrified of doing it wrong and offending people. (I also knew I'd offend the haters, and it happened, but I don't give a shit about queer-bashers, I get enough of that in real life). And then I got comments thanking me for doing it, whether it was perfect or not.
Recently I started playing a transgender character (well, a character who is actually pretty much in the "wants to be a girl" case: still identifies as male but feels gender dysphoria (again, this is probably a term to use carefully, but I don't have room to write an essay here), etc, though they do transition later on in their timeline), and once more I was biting my nails... but the people who've helped me with this are not those who you'd expect to take the issue lightly (cis people), but trans people themselves. They've been supportive and informative when they were comfortable with it, and it's been awesome.
I'm not trans, but I know that as a minority I love it when other people actually try to understand (really understand, instead of giving in to stereotypes) and put themselves in the head of a character from that minority. Because if only people from a minority write about that minority... how will understanding come? How will acceptance come? It'd be just another iteration of separate but equal.
It's impossible to please everyone. There'll always be someone who disagrees, or someone who gets accidentally triggered by a small thing, because no one would've expected that small thing to be triggering. But I think if you genuinely try and want to understand, then it's a good thing.
And if you're anxious about it... well, ask people who are trans themselves. Am I doing this right. Is this part offensive. How would you feel in this situation. How do outside people react to this (not the first thing you'd think of, but I think it's important, you don't always predict how society treats a certain group of people if you haven't seen it)
In short, don't let fear bring you down. It's an awesome thing to bring a character to life, and the world needs more trans characters.

Thank you for your support!

Maybe I'll try it after all. I'd still have to get more confidence in my writing abilities first.

(Also, I'd be willing to share the idea with you if you want. You'd probably have better luck with itXD)
