Wow, I could've made this secret. That song was my ringtone for about 8 years before I finally replaced it "Of Wolf and Man" by Metallica.

No offense OP, but who cares? It's not targeted towards me either, but I still love it.

Music isn't about whether or not it tells the story of your life or of you as a person (though people do find solace in it that way). It's whether or not you enjoy listening to it and whether or not you get something out of it.

If you like the song, then fuck the fact that it's not targeted towards you or people like you. Just enjoy it for the sake of enjoying it! There's nothing wrong with that at all. :)

Yeah. And I doubt the band meant the song to be inclusive. If a song speaks to you then it speaks to you.

It can be for you, it can be for anyone who hears it. Songs like that aren't written JUST for a certain group of people to listen to and identify with, they're for anyone and everyone who likes them. Even if they're written with a certain kind of person, or even just one person, in mind, that doesn't mean other people can't love them and identify with them too.

Kansas wrote a lot of fantastic songs, although "Wayward Son" and "Dust in The Wind" are the ones everyone seems to remember, but they had several albums of great music. Every song on "Point of Know Return" is a classic.

They can still be awesome even if you don't relate to them personally.

Heck yes. Kansas' best-of album was a constantly replayed mainstay in my high school car. Around that same time - 14 years ago - I got to see them live at a local festival. They were amazing.

Aww, come on, it's for everybody. It's not just about actually DOING things, it's about feelings and whatnot.

It's still one of my favorite songs too, even though I haven't lived that kind of life in years. Ditto for Midnight Rider, Ramblin' Man, and Ramble On.

See, I grew up listening to it, and I actually didn't much care about it until I realized it was targeted toward people like me.

But I do get what you mean. Appreciating something that's beyond your experience can make you feel as though you're missing out on something within the experience. But it's not like that should stop you-- I like all kind of things I'll never have access to. So do plenty of people.
