Actually the only doggy name he ever calls him is 負け犬, which, even if the kanji literally mean "defeated dog," translates most smoothly as "loser."

Between that and 凡骨, I just don't get this ship... Kaiba makes it perfectly clear he doesn't consider Jounouchi worth his time. (Atem/Yuugi, on the other hand...)

Buuuuuut I guess some kind of leftover-ship is necessary for him, with all that ura/omote stuffthe fandom swears by. Siiiiigh.

Dubs exist. People watch them and base fanfic on them. Kaiba uses dog-based insults on Joey (Note the name. It is the dub name).

Yeah, I know. The dub was this anon's first anime back in the day, and you know what? Kaiba's Yugi fixation still seemed way more shippy (or at the least more interesting) than his antagonistic deriding of Joey -- it's what got me into fandom in the first place.

Honestly, after a while the dog nicknames thing felt like beating a dead horse, even when all I knew was the canon and not the fandom.

I'm not really even into the Yugioh fandom, I just watched the dub when I was a kid, haha.

But yeah, I think most people ship Seto/Joey alongside Yami/Yugi (which, I believe, is the biggest ship in the fandom), it's just so there's a big happy yaoi family going on. I think this happens in most fandoms, tbh.
