Just commenting with chibi!America holding a bunny makes me want to hug you! In a non-creepy internet-hug kind of way. (Bunny.♥)

One of the best things for when I was mildly depressed was Azumanga Daioh. But only when it was "mild". For me, when I'm doing really badly, fluffy cute happy things make me feel even worse because it just "reminds" me that "reality is horrible and harsh and nothing like this wonderful happy land of happy". At that point, I need to either 1) mindlessly level-grind in a video game for hours, or B) pet cats. Or even just sit with them while they nap or watch birds out the window. (Psychiatrist vastly prefers B. So my thumbs.)

(I think with TTGL the creators were telling us "WE LIKE THE AWESOME, HOW ABOUT YOU?!? >D")

Even so much as disagreeing with another person's opinion can be seen as disagreeing with the actual person.

I know you're referring to Japanese culture in context, but this could summarize so many fights in my childhood started. I still have a bad habit of disclaiming absolutely everything I say because on some level, I still expect something as small as "I don't like X that much, I prefer Y" to send someone who likes X into an epic screaming rage. Or, worse, stewing resentment that suddenly bursts a week later like a giant pimple of ANGER.

lol oh gosh I know what you mean @_@ Partly why I couldn't finish The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is because they always went out and did fun things, and I was just sitting here like :| But yeah, I like Azumanga Daioh too :) I think at the height of my depression I would have watched a ton-more of that show, but I only had 1 volume at the time.

That's also kinda why I turned to Higurashi. One night I was really depressed and wanted something happy, but the show is also really violent so I was able to enjoy the show without having "happy stuff" making me feel worse

But the reason I bring up hetalia & TTGL is because a) Hetalia just plain made me see the world in a more optimistic way, and seeing of how much of a pessimist I was about the world that was kind of a big deal to me, (DON'T ASK HOW IT'S TL;DR AND EVEN THEN I'D PROBABLY GET LAUGHED AT OTL OTL OTL) and b) when I say that Gainax was "trying to tell us something," I meant sort of...like....Eva was one of their greatest Mecha-series of all time, but it was also pretty darn gloomy- but then TTGL came out and it was just over-flowing with so. much. OPTIMISM!! It was like a punch to the face! (even if it came out years and years later) So it was kinda like saying that "it gets better", or something, y'know? (lol I'm totally wrong though since I doubt Gainax cared or even intended for that to be the point of TTGL at all)

tbh I kinda think that Shinji just needs a big brother like Kamina in his life, or maybe a sweet caring girl like Nia around :'D (Not saying characters like that would be a GOOD addition to the show, but as far as his personality is concerned, I can see characters like them at least "helping him cope a bit better", y'know?)

Oh gosh, I'm sorry to hear that D: I didn't get into fights in my childhood 'cause people just plain hated me, pure and simple @_@ But to think that kind of thing actually happened to ya...it really stinks, and I can see how it doesn't just happen in Japan ; n ;

Anyway no problem, and I honestly hope you feel better ; w ; Shinji always was and is one of my favorite characters of all time, and I think you're awesome too!
