I tend to bounce back and forth between 'Serena', 'Usagi' and 'Bunny' (original Manga translation name). But yeah, Serena is really my default there a lot of the time. Sometimes I feel guilty about it, like I'm not a 'real' fan. D| Alas.

Of all the things the dub did horribly -- which is a LOT -- they did a pretty good job with the names, IMO. At least DiC did.

Serena as a diminutive of Serenity, Lita sounds similar to Leda...

Yeah, same here. I am totally anti-name-changing, but I just can't think of her as Usagi (or Bunny.) I can only call her Usagi in the live-action one.

It took me a LONG time before I could easily associate Usagi = Serena and Senshi = Sailor Scout. That's what happens when I literately grow up watching the English dubs. :/

I still like the DiC transformation music better...

Well, here in Finland they actually aired the show with the Swedish dub for some reason. Because of this she will mostly be "Annie" to me. Annie Tsukino. Because they didn't change the surnames. Or names of about anyone else.

Also, Serena for me will always be this: http://serena.fi/ e.g. a water park.

And a random final note, Usagi is pronounced with a short "u" at the beginning. Japanese pronunciation is very close to how it's written.

I agree, I think it was a great name for her considering the myth that the manga was based on. All the names in the dub I thought were pretty darn clever.

Me, too. I don't understand the elitism when it comes to using "dub" names vs. the original Japanese names. Also, even though I know it is a name, as a Japanese speaker calling her "rabbit" just sounds really fucking stupid.
