Ha, same here. I have no clue why, but it just really irritated me.

Same.

Everyone's morals are just really screwed up in the wizarding world.

It kinda does. I thought it was sweet that she wanted him to get it so badly, but it sort of insulted him in a way? I mean they all knew he could play, he just has performance anxiety, but he still should have earned it on his own. Harry's method of tricking him into thinking he was lucky was I guess a better route. He needed a confidence booster if he needed anything.

Wasn't he a douchebag anyway?

[identity profile] szaleniec1000.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The one time he did get to play, he made a complete dog's dinner of it because he was too busy trying to tell everyone else how to play that he forgot to actually keep goal. Then he knocked Harry out and cost them the match.

I'm a big Ron, Hermione, and Ron/Hermione fan, and I have to agree. I would've been more okay with it, I think, if they had presented it like it was a bad thing in the book, because Hermione does that sometimes and it's IC. But I didn't like that it was seen as this sweet thing? Maybe I'm remembering it wrongly though.

Idk, I always appreciated it because Hermione always saw Ron's inferiority complex better than anyone (even Harry), hence the reason she helped him out--despite her beliefs. Her relationship/friendship with Ron meant more to her than being "right", and sometimes, you have friends in your life who make you feel that way; the kind of friend you'd do ANYTHING for them. Not too many people can even claim to have that kind of friend.

It was a nice Ron/Hermione friendship moment.

How is it helping Ron's inferiority complex to cheat for him? Basically, to me, this shows that Hermione doesn't have faith in Ron. As long as she is holding him back like this, Ron is never going to reach his full potential. I found it really problematic (almost as problematic as the book Ron used to lie to Hermione to seduce her in DH).

1) "It's okay if I decide to cheat, but if anyone else even pretends to cheat, I will give them holy hell out of it for the rest of the day!" Seriously. Hermione's moral entitlement issues are scary.

2) Instead of trusting Ron to do well, she makes sure his opponent does poorly. What kind of Snidely Whiplash Wacky Races strategy is this? Effective, but...wow.

3) Instead of trusting Harry to be an effective team captain, the sort of person who knows that it's not just about a player's physical skill but about how well that person will work with the rest of the team, etc etc...yeah, instead of trusting that Harry might be able to make sound decisions on something that he actually cares about, Hermione takes matters into her own hands in something she has no business getting up in.

Seriously. Chick is scary.

And yet fans maintain that Hermione's so perfect.

Everyone has their flaws in that book, including Hermione, but hell if anyone remembers any time she's been in the wrong.
