And Ron just stood there looking almost *jealous* and ugh idk. I feel like the movies, in addition to pushing H/Hr is also playing up this nonexistent love triangle ... I've seen reviews written by people who haven't read the books refer to one of the boys as "his rival for Hermione's affection." NOT ENOUGH CAPSLOCK IN THE WORLD.
I love Harry and Hermione's friendship, I really do. But I also love Ron and Hermione's friendship and Harry and Ron's friendship, and that hug scene was unforgivable. It's a shame, because I felt like the last two movies were an improvement on the trio's dynamic, with Hermione being slightly nerdier (her "no, I'm just extremely logical blahblahblah perceive that which others overlook!" in DH1) and Ron being all amazing as shit in DH1 what with Rupert's acting kicking all kinds of ass, and how Ron and Hermione seemed like total equals in DH2 (I loved that, how they were separated from Harry through the whole battle scene, showing that this is the story of "Harry James Potter, who, along with his two awesome sidekicks, wise mentor, and all of his friends and allies, defeats the Dark Lord" not "this is the story of Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, Wonder Duo, and there wacky sidekick Ron, who defeat the Dark Lord in the midst of hugging a lot"). I feel sort of bad complaining about anything about DH2, since I'm first and foremost a Neville fangirl and it couldn't have made me happier in that regard, but the lack of a Harry-Ron hug was so ;lkfna;lsdknf;alskna;sldkfna;lsdkfa;lsdkn- inducing. It could have been such a beautiful moment- Harry tells them, they both start crying (Hermione more hysterical and Ron more angry), the Harry and Hermione hug happens but doesn't last so awkwardly long, then the Harry-Ron hug happens, then Harry steps back, looks at his TWO best friends, and walks off, and Ron and Hermione fall into each others arms for comfort.
