Summary: Gin is a jerk, and people shouldn't romanticize him. Which I agree with, tbh, though I stopped reading Bleach after the Arrankar arc, so who knows what's happened since.

Whatever, I still ship it and think that any sort of chivalry and noble action Gin showed definitely had something to do with her. Which is just how I like that ship, so I'm sticking to it.

He found her starving and shared food when they were kids (..I mean, as much as people age like that in Soul Society? I'm still not sure how that works), he wanted to change things to keep her happy/not crying, they lived together, and it's ambiguous but he probably faked her death so that he could spare her Aizen's wrath.

It's not a perfect ship and Gin is a character with a lot of blanks to fill, but I just like that the only person he's really shown any sort of concern for (if only a little) was her.

Ah, okay. I agree that for some reason, he did care for her back when they were kids, but in a way, that only underlines in my eyes just how messed up he was in the head: he only ever cared for her, and even so he left her utterly alone both physically and emotionally :/ It's sad all around.

I'll be honest: I hate Gin. I don't even particularly like Rukia, but the way he repeatedly went out of his way to psychologically torture her just for shit and giggles is just unforgivable as far as I'm concerned. And the way he supposedly loved Rangiku... Yeah, when you love someone, you don't leave them all alone to go carry on a vengeance on their behalf without even talking to them about it. Meh. Abusive, selfish, psychopathic asshole.

Seriously. It's not just the Ichiruki/Ichihime/Ulquihime shippers who seem to lose their screws a bit too often. Then again, Kubo doesn't help, when he gives ~romantic~ endings to completely fucked-up characters (Ulquiorra, Gin...) Meh =_=

Well, that's the thing, really: Ulquiorra is fucked up because he's nothing BUT meh. Nothing matters to him, literally. He's not just stoic, or detached, or cold, or some kind of Bleach Vulcan; no, he truly doesn't care about ANYTHING. And that's massively fucked-up, even if it's nowhere as spectacular as Nnoitra's brand of insanity.

It is romantic. It is heroic in a way. But he's not a good guy, not by a long shot. All those things you listed anon, just show how twisted he was. People got all bent out of shape thinking that his love for Rangiku suddenly made him a great guy. Well, they were the ones who are deluded. He's still a twisted fuck, but yeah twisted fucks can still fall in love. It happens. He was trying to stop bring Aizen down by himself and in order to do that he had to get close to him. Aizen was able to fool everyone by working undercover and Gin tried to do the same thing to him. He covered up his own personal truth with lies and more lies. He did a lot of bad things, but ultimately he did it for the woman he loved. Just like Snape. :p Love 'em or hate 'em that's what happened.

Why the hell are people still talking about this anyway? I know bleach has been boring as all hell lately but come on is that all there is to talk about?

The thing is, no one kills for love. Gin was an inteligent man, besides everything. If his intentions were really "protecting Rangiku from crying", he wouldn't have... betrayed her and hurt all the people she cared about. He wasn't naive enough for not realize that his actions would have made her cry even more.
