The pilot's terrible-- bad lighting, seriously under-budgeted, and the dialogue and case are just awful because it was a shorter episode. If all you're looking for is a different Donovan (which, by the way, Donovan is actually a very minor policewoman in the pilot) then sure, you might find what you're looking for. But as an episode? It was terrible.

There are a few things I like more, though. Sherlock actually figures out it was a cab driver way earlier, and the restaurant scene over all is better.

Eh. There are a few things that might have been better when combined with the quality of the first aired episode, but overall, the pilot was very cinematically weak. Much of the suspense was lost (knowing they were murdered initially, solving the crime earlier) and the characterization was much different. Plus, Sherlock in jeans...meh.

(To be fair, the first episode was my favorite of the three, and I doubt the pilot could have compared even had it been exceptional. Personal opinion, that.)

I agree knowing they were murders all along drained a good deal of the suspense, but I don't agree that solving the case earlier as a bad thing. As it is, Sherlock looks really off his game in the aired version, and as it's the first episode, we should be impressed by him, not wanting to smack him upside the head for his idiocy.

Sherlock in jeans.. yeah, I know everyone thinks he loos hot in them, but it feels out of character; at least the character we see in the aired version.

Seconding. It's so inferior to the finished product, and all the characterization is wildly off.
