Re: #6
Incestuous relationships are usually not consensual and are not very healthy, but I would be lying if I said I doubted there were any healthy ones out there. There are probably some people that really do care for each other romantically that belong to the same family, and if they aren't hurting anyone that's fine and none of my business, no matter how ick I think it is. The fact is that people need to keep in mind that half to most relationships in general that you will have in your life won't work out. Usually, you can at least part ways, or be friends. But it can be very awkward, especially if you were deeply involved. Incestuous relationships have the downside of not only having to deal with society's reaction to it and possible internalisex self-hatred, but it would be hard to repair a familial relationship after you were romantically involved with said family member and it didn't work out. That's you losing a very important bond in your life all because you thought a fic was hot, rofl.
Sexual dynamics can ruin friendships, they can ruin professional relationships, and damn well can ruin familial ones, too. It's awkward to try and picture running in to your brother at a BBQ and thinking "That's Dan. He's my brother. We dated and had sex, but it didn't work out. Now we are back to just being brother and sister :)" and probably very rare.
It's not the act that squicks me as much as what could happen if the relationship (and i'm assuming it's a relationship just for sake of argument and not just sex) doesn't work out. Not only that but it's very rare you ever love only one person in your life :\ It's a shame that anyone would ever fall for a family member, not because it's wrong on an objective level, but because of everything working against that person, guilt issues, societal disapproval, and what would happen if that relationship didn't work out. If anyone really does have a relationship with their parent/sibling, no matter how weird that is to me personally and kind of ick, I'd at least say good luck if it was genuine, and I'd hope it worked out. The consequences of that relationship not working out is worse than many others, and the control dynamics that a family member can have over you is just as bad as a child with an adult in some cases.
They can feel however they like, and no, it isn't harming anyone. And anyone who wishes bad things or harm or hates someone in a relationship like that needs to sort out their priorities in life. I am very uncomfortable with a lot of certain lifestyles, but they aren't being forced on me so what do I care?
It's just the fact that they only want to do it because of a fic, or idealized fandom perceptions of incest. What if people read rapefic that eventually turned into comfort fic, and decided they wanted that? It's a dumb way to get 'inspired'.
also, keep in mind that, from what we know, most incest occurs in childhood, and is rarely between adults in immediate family (in the west).
