I've noticed the same thing, TBH. We're going through a clique-y phase. I'm hanging in there out of love for the canon, and because I'm not tight with anyone, I know that for the time being that's just going to have to be enough.

Relatively more cliquey than it sometimes is, then. For the first couple of years I was in the fandom, I was able to interact with a wide variety of people without getting the cold shoulder from almost everyone and people commented on things I posted even though I don't really having my own crew. At the moment, that's difficult because people seem to be sticking more closely to their cliques.

I think TF fandom in general is sort of quieting down and moving to Tumblr, but I'm really sorry it's had that effect on you. Nothing's worse than feeling abandoned.

I think the thing is: are you in it primarily for the art, the fic, how much the canon resonates with you, etc. or are you primarily in it for the people? And how long have you been in fandom?

Because with any group of people there are stages. The first stage it's all "Oh, hey, people who like stuff I like! Awesome! I wanna talk to everyone and everyone! And they think I'm neat because they haven't met me!"

Then slowly you start to realize who's really your friend. Not necessarily ominously -- some people you just don't click with. But also, yeah, some cliques might not want you and some people might not like you. And sadly, there are a few people in TF fandom who are in it for the wank, and running afoul of them can get ugly.

And, well, if you're in fandom for the people, then when enough of them ostracize you it means you may not have much reason to stay. But if you're in it because something about it really speaks to you, independent of who else loves the canon and how some of them act or don't... then it's silly to leave over some wankers' hissyfits.

I don't know whether I know you, so I don't know whether by "tear off my insignia" you mean ditch a set of loser friends, or if you mean sadly lay to rest something that was important to you for other reasons. Only you know exactly what you meant.

But if it's something that has meaning to you independently of the other fans... don't let a few people's behavior ruin that for you. Move on if you need to, yes, but don't let some people's bad behavior ruin something you love.

That's giving them free rent in your head, and they don't deserve that.

This secret makes me feel bad about not being as active in fandom now as I was recently. My new job is great and all but I feel like I've abandoned my friends for it cuz I don't have time for fic or anything ;; (I mean I'm two days late on F!S, ffs) I hope I'm not one of the people you feel is ignoring you, OP!
