Hmm....I think it was good, but not his best. For me, it is either "Ed Wood" or "Big Fish".

At the time when I first watched it, when ST came out, I absolutely loved it and watched a lot of times.

If I rewatched it now, I'd probably wonder why I loved it to much.

So true- I cringed with embarrassment over HBC's Worst Pies in London. I hope you didn't get to the madhouse scene- the way the film does it manages to totally confuse Anthony and Johanna's charactera.

THIS. It's been a while since I saw the movie, but IIRC they cut the judge's version of Johanna, and it pissed me off so much. I remember seeing that song in the play production and thinking it was so chilling and horrific, I loved it. I was excitedly awaiting it in the movie, because chilling and horrific Rickman would have killed me, and then it never came. Super disappointing.

I got the odd feeling that the MPAA said the film could either have the violence or the sex but not both (they cut the beggar woman's lewder come-ons too).

I don't think it was my favorite but I liked it a lot. I'd seen the play three or four times and it's one of my favorites ever besides Little Shop of Horrors, and I thought the adaptation was just fine.
