It's a book on Stephen Sondheim and his work through the 70's.

The story I have for them is that Keith had some sort of fatal disease (haven't decided what it was) and was in and out of the hospital while he and Brian were in their relationship. Brian got it for Keith's birthday during one of the times Keith was particularly in poor health and he would sit beside Keith's hospital bed and read it to him. After Keith passed away, Brian found it among the belongings and gave it away because it was too painful a reminder of his lover.

There was a book I saw once at a library, and it was short comics that people had written based on the proposed backstories of things like inscriptions and notes on old greeting cards and books.
