Wait, so if the fic has an interesting and well written plot you'll flat out refuse to read it just because it uses the name "Serena" or whatever? Or do you just not know the dub names and don't want to be confused?

because I don't associate the dub-names with the characters due to how I came to the series, whenever I read them they just jolt me out of the narrative. This makes it nearly impossible to get immersed in the plot and appreciate the story. It is no slight against the writer, or other fans of those stories (or fans of the dub-names), just I find them very hard and distracting to read.

I know some people who do this; maybe it'd work for you - copy/paste the fic into Word and then do a find/replace on the names (e.g. find "Serena" and replace with "Usagi") before you start reading. It's not a 100% cure-all since you can never really be sure of every single name they've included in the fic, but maybe it's worth a shot if it helps you get past the names and able to focus on the story itself?

Lol, I love this trick. I do it for Ronin Warriors any time I can. Nothing against the Samurai Trooper names, I just grew up on the dub and it's just easier.

Personally, I don't read dub-name fics because most of them are based on the dub series, which I love, but don't think has very strong characterisation.

What pairings, OP? There's some great stuff floating around livejournal.

I am pairing neutral, so if the story makes a pairing work and seem okay then I am totally up for reading it (although I do have a soft spot for Ami/Usagi, which is damn rare, or Setsuna/anyone but Hotaru). All pointers gratefully accepted.

Ah, damn. I pretty exclusively read/write Haruka/Michiru and my friends exclusively write Usagi/Mamoru so I don't have that many gen or story-centred recs, unfortunately...

Girl Who Writes has some of the most poignant SM fics I've read, ever, for any pairing. She does quite a bit on Setsuna, which you might be interested in, and On The Edge Of A Fifty Percent Chance is still one of the best Haruka/Michiru short stories I've read.

Daughter of Mars does a lot of AU stuff and a bit on Myu. If that's something you're interested in, she also writes very well and I vehemently recommend her stuff.

If you're open to wild crack, there's a great fic floating around called Secondary Characters that has Haruka/Michiru/Setsuna- and there's a pretty big focus on Setsuna, as I recall.
