Hyphenated names are so annoying though. It comes off as pretentious to me for some reason, IDK why

My husband wanted to change his name when we got married but I decided against it because I didn't like the sound of his first name with my surname

I see it as more to do with honouring my family name than anything, but I guess it really comes down to the individual whether they want to keep or take up their spouses last name. I just think it's a valid option, and I really haven't perceived anything beyond that idea. Unless I ask, that is.

It may be cultural thing too. I have a spanish last name, and traditionally, I can keep my last name and take up my spouse's last name, hyphenate it, amalgamate and what-have-you. I like that I can do whatever I want so long as I'm comfortable with it.
