I don't think it's about being a people person so much as it is about a caregiver relationship. I've never had a younger sibling or a child, but I have kept animals, and there's something profoundly different in the pain of losing someone who was entirely dependent on you versus losing somebody who was their own person.

Also - the story is from Harry's POV, so inevitably we're more likely to experience deaths the way he would. Fred was Ron's brother and Molly/Arthur's kid, but since Harry knew him only as his friend's cool brother, it's not quite as devastating in the moment.
