I care!

I don't get why anyone would get so teary-eyed over Bay's rustbuckets.

They have no real characterization. Most people just love them because they represent characters from their childhood. I think the only robot I felt sorry for was Bumblebee and only because Shia LaBitch abused him so much.

So I get where you're coming from (given that the comics make a little more sense than the movies and actually care for their characters).

+1

I was a little upset over Arcee, but that was mainly because she got snuffed so unceramoniously. Keep trying Michael, there might be people in the world who haven't realized that you're a misogynist creep.

Didn't he say he killed her off because he hated her, followed by a smug laughter? Knowing he took so much joy in destroying this character made me feel a little disgusted. Not because she was a girlbot, but because he didn't give any reason why he hated her so much.

I think you're right about people responding to Bayformers because they represent characters from childhood, but I would add in all of the different verses, not just the old books and animated series. Also, I think participating in the fandom adds another layer to that, filling in all the blank spaces in Bay's characterization. For instance, making Ironhide a close friend of Will and overprotective guardian of Annabelle, or writing fic that mentions Sideswipe missing his twin even though Sunstreaker was never even mentioned in the movies. (Did Sideswipe even have any lines? I can't remember.)

I think all of these things end up blending together, allowing fans of the movie to care about the Bayverse bots.

Mhh yeah, I didn't think about that.
Maybe it's just because I can't take the characters in the Bay movies seriously. We all know Bay didn't give two shits about their character motivation or character traits.

So even though I haven't read the movie comics, I trust they portray the characters better than the movie itself.

I don't think it's that nobody cares about the comics, but that they're not as widely marketed? I'll mention the different TF comics to people in passing and many are pleasantly surprised that such things exist and probably would have invested in them had they known about them sooner.

The medium in general is kind of underappreciated, tbh. Comics aren't the most expensive thing in existence, but if you get a lot of different series they can add up big time.

what are you talking about

comics > EVERYTHING

always

[identity profile] spectrumpheonix.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I care, anon. I seriously frickin care.

I blinked at Ironhide's death in RofT. I spent days in the emo corner because of All Hail Megatron.

[identity profile] captain-emily.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I've never read any Transformers comics due to a lack of free time, but I'd like to start sometime soon. Can you recommend any specific series or books? TF is a long-running series with a lot of different universes, and I'm a little clueless where to begin.

[identity profile] konora.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Everything IDW. It's still running right now, it's got some gorgeous art and great plots, etc. etc. Where to start... that's a little harder. I started out with All Hail Megatron, personally.

Er... hope that's helpful. ^^;

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I second that.
Last Stand of the Wreckers is my personal favorite. Also a very appealing and fresh art style.

[identity profile] xxsomeoneelsexx.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, right on. The comics were ten times better than the movies. They actually cared and tried to make sense of all the movies' nonsensical plot holes. I still love Reign of Starscream like burning. And I'm rather fond of Flatline! <3
