I agree, it's like yes finally we're gonna get some character development and then what follows is more smut. It has potential but it's just not being used and I agree the sex is getting to be a bit too much.

Because yeah, I agree. I like some character development in my porn, especially if it's going to be so slow on the updates. It really just seemed like the people making the comic were like "buttsex in space...yes, let's run with that and see how far we get."

Agreed so much, at least about losing interest in the meaningless smut and about the lack of plot.

The one quality of Starfighters that I truly enjoy is the detail in all the panels, which I imagine are what account for the slow updates.

I'm thinking I might come back to the webcomic next year and see if Abel has finally finished giving Cain that damned blow job yet.

Well, I'm not interested in yaoi to begin with so I really just check it for the art. Which, as one of the above commenters said, is detailed enough to justify the slow updates imho - it's not like the author is doing this as her primary job, I suppose? Let's cut her some slack here.

For a porn comic, it spends too much time on a plot that doesn't matter. And the porn is horrible kawaii desu rape buttsecks, it's pretty troubling.

Eeeeh, I'm really not surprised by this. I tried to read a few pages but I got bored quickly because it was all porn and the power-inbalance sort of made me uncomfortable. The art is amazing and the artist seems really sweet so I felt sorta bad for not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. :/

what annoys me about this comic is... i guess the updates are pretty slow so when there's a plot section it just seems like it's taking FOREVER. and the plot is fucking boring and dumb and all i want is gay sex. i mean i know it can't all be one big sex scene but i wish it was.

I wish Hamlet would figure out if she wanted her comic to be about plot or about porn. If it was 90% one or the other it'd be better but right now it feels like theres might be a story in there but it keeps getting interupted by sex scenes.

Also as far as the comic's value as porn, the power imbalance/seme and uke dynamic/rape as love crap in it make me uncomfortable so.

I wouldn't feel 100% comfortable coming to this comic's defense about...most things, really, it's a huge guilty pleasure of mine, but...I always laugh at the comments I see about it supposedly not having a plot. Last I looked at it it was only in the second chapter, which is where a lot of stuff can still be in exposition, and there were a fuck-ton of unanswered questions brought up in only that amount. Like, I wouldn't read a yaoi comic expecting plot, and I thought there seemed to be some kind of plan forming. But given that the updates are pretty slow (are they compared to other webcomics, I don't really know), the story feels like it slags a bit. And still I'm just kind of LOLing at all the "My porn is so slow"!

So I don't really read webcomics that aren't in strip format, so I have no idea how the whole thing actually works, but, um, I just went and read this one and it isn't really long enough to really tell? I don't know, I mean, of course it's going to be shorter because it's a hobby thing, but it's two chapters long which isn't a lot of space to get into a story. It's all still setup.

But I like it and thanks for introducing me to it!

I think the porn is hot. I get plotty stories everywhere else so I give no fucks if this comic has a plot or not. But the slow updates do kill it.

And it's a military setting dude. It's completely possible no women are allowed to be fighters.

After reading comments, I feel like I`m doing something wrong.
This is one of my favourite webcomic, partly because it updates reasonably often (vs The Dusk webcomic for instance), has just enough plot to not confuse the shit out of me (vs LFG webcomic), and has perfect smut scenes.
And by the way the author`s skill grew considerably comparing last to the first panels.
And I just realised that of all webcomics I follow this one is THE favourite.

Huh, this is pretty much my favourite web comic (though granted I haven't read that many). The art is gorgeous, the plot is rather more than what I expect from yaoi (though I do agree about the random and gratuitous smut), and the smut is hot. IMO the cliche part would be how Abel fell for Cain the bad boy just like that.

Wait, I'm meant to be reading this for the plot? Shit, I've been doing wrong. =/

But seriously, the comic's only two chapters in and incredibly detailed. Just leave it for five years, then go back it, thing's might have changed by then, it might have a plot. Or maybe not, and it'll just be mindless sex. But it'll still awesome art. Win/Win either way. At least for me.

But there is plot, tho? Perhaps everyone forgot that Cain has been asked by the Fighter commander to perform a secret mission and he was succesful - and we don't know what that is yet. Meanwhile Abel has daddy issues and furthermore volunteered to go on a deathly mission into enemy territory - at this point he hasn't told Cain yet - how will Cain react? Since Cain likes the thrill of battle perhaps his and Abel's bond with be strengthened once they get back into flight. Also, the Navigator commander seemed keen - far too keen - knowing that Abel had chosen to go to the front lines. There's also two other characters who are vying for the leads' attentions, one of which can't talk properly and is socially awkward and the other whose life had been saved by Abel, so he feel indepted and perhaps a little bit in love.

But actually, I read this comic for the porn. I think I've reread the first sex scene 10874237937 times. Why complain when there's a comic out there with detailed porn and detailed characters?

As a gay man who was shown this by a friend... I never got the appeal of Starfighter, personally.

I know people make strange faces during sex but EVERY.SINGLE.FACE. during the sex scenes is just so silly looking that each one could be used as a 'DERP' reaction image. I know it's not just me who thinks this either - tried showing it to another friend of mine and he formed the exact same opinion without me saying anything. Sorry, even if the artwork is otherwise beautiful (And it is!) the derpfaces... Can't get over them.


Also, the author would have to decide if the whole "You're my bitch now, porntime forever' shit is the goal of this comic or if the 'Serious, forbidden love with a side of porn' is the target. Without leaning towards one or the other, it just becomes a tropey, annoyingly-typical yaoi comic.

I know it's said that yaoi is 'geared towards women' and therefore I should 'expect to not like it' (Yes people have said this to me before, in defense of the comic!) but that sentiment gives me an 'only women would appreciate this' sort of vibe which feels... vaguely skeevy to me. I've had female friend who don't care for stereotypical yaoi set-ups and I've had gay men who read yaoi actively.

Just my opinion though.
