There are hundreds, thousands, of people small and petty enough to rip off other, better talented authors and claim their words as their own. But I don't see major fandom wanks about them that pop up with the level of hate that CC generates. They flare up, they're reported, that shit gets dealt with and the offending stories removed, and the internet moves the fuck on.
So why can't people move on in this case? Why does it keep getting called up again and again?
She doesn't deserve the comments like "man the harpoons!" or to have people who now try to ruin her career because of what happened so many years ago. I don't think anyone should be dragged through the mud for a mistake they made almost a decade ago. If she were still active in fandom, I'd say she's fair game but since she's dropped out of fandom completely years back, I wish people would just move past it already. There's plenty of other things to wank.
And I think it's just creepy in general to have shit from 10 years ago brought back up again and again and again no matter who it was or what they did. Unless they were out murdering puppies or whatever it's not worth it.

Just because it happens to others doesn't make it right. And maybe it gets brought up again and again because she's one of the more notorious offenders? In a fair-sized fandom? And despite it all, she's now a published writer? I don't know. The whole reason I responded was because it seemed as though you were minimizing what she did because she did it to fanfic writers. It's not okay just because the people she stole from weren't professionally published. If anything, it makes it worse because all fanfic writers have are their words.
I do agree with you about the fat jokes. She doesn't deserve those. But trolls are everywhere, and they'll attack anything for a reaction.

Even with being published and the whole thing when her fans bought her a laptop and everything else. IDK I see plenty of posts on lj with people moaning about needing money and putting up a Paypal donation link. It's rude behavior imo but it still doesn't demonize her.
I don't belittle people who plagiarize from other fanfic authors. If anything that bothers me more than when they plagiarize against published people. The published person is still getting paid and might get some new fans when the truth comes out. It still sucks and is morally the wrong thing to do but their career isn't going to be ruined because some twit online stole their words. But for a fanfic writer, their online experience can be ruined because of just that. I agree with you, it makes it worse because all fanfic writers have are their words.
But afaik CC never plagiarized other fanfic writers. I might have missed something with all the wank that went down but I've never heard of her doing that. Ripping lines off Pamela Dean or Buffy or Red Dwarf yes, other fanfic writers, no.
The fat jokes are a major part of why I want the wank around her to just die the fuck off already. She's listed as an acceptable target by the worst dregs of fandom and as a result they won't hesitate to slam her for her weight or her looks and use spiteful misogynistic language in the process. But it's considered okay because it's CC.
It's not okay. It's never okay. But they'll keep doing it every single time the wank emerges again until we finally, finally let the thing rest.
I should clarify too, I don't defend CC because I think she's a good person or whatever. From what I've read of her she's done some really horrible things and hurt people who trusted her. She seems spiteful to me. I just get sick of the dogpiling especially when it brings this level of bashing.
