what the hell do you mean by that? I am a butch woman, and I find Arya (and Brienne) inspirational _in_ their boyishness. Ish just means "like"

Boyish means like a boy and implies that certain traits are masculine. Just because a girl is a tomboy and has certain traits that are stereotypically considered more masculine doesn't mean she is boyish. Only boys are boyish.

Oh, fuck off.

I forgot this was [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets where half the words don't mean what they mean in real life.

Boyish means like a boy and implies that certain traits are masculine.

Yes, it does, and in Arya's time some of her traits would be considered incredibly masculine. I don't see why this is a problem. If a girl is a tomboy, she has traits commonly associated with boys, i.e. she is boyish. If you were saying this about a woman wearing pants and bringing home the dough in our time I'd raise an eyebrow at you, but saying it about a convention-breaking woman in Arya's time? What exactly is the issue?

Welcome to Fandom secrets 101:
-get upset about what s essentially semantics
-then claim use of a perfectly common word is sexist.

Yup, sounds like F!S to me.
