I feel like if I start questioning the logic to something in this movie, I'll never be able to stop. But yay RHPS secret! I really need to re-watch this. I was involved in a production all four years of college and now I haven't seen it in over a year. It feels odd to not see this movie at least once a week =/

I've seen the movie many times and only recently realized he was there too (I did know about the other three though, probably mostly because they were credited for the song ... plus Richard O'Brien is sort of hard to miss, even more so than Tim Curry).

Secondly: You shouldn't fret about the plot that much. It's RHPS.
Lastly, a fun fact: O'Brien and Quinn were high as fuck that day and it was Quinn's first time smoking pot!

Not to get all 'logical' or anything, but this started out as a play, and generally, to save money, the actors take on many roles. In the play, Eddie and Dr. Scott were played by the same actor too.

The obviously didn't need to do it for the film, but they probably kept the old roles for shits and giggles.

Given the movie, I think it's probably just supposed to be odd. (I didn't even realise it was Tim Curry the first few times. Yes, even though they've *circled his head*. I'm not smart.)

Fun fact: O'Brien wanted the beginning of the movie to play out somewhat like The Wizard of Oz. He had planned to shoot the beginning of the movie in black and white and have everything turn to color when Brad and Janet busted through the doors into the ballroom for The Time Warp. I believe that idea was canned because it turned out to be too much money for two different kinds of film to be used.

So, running with the Wiz of Oz theme and how Dorothy's uncles and acquaintances all became different characters in Oz in the same way that Tim, Richard and Patricia would become main characters in the weird "other world" of Frank's mansion, it makes sense. Also, many of the wedding guests in that scene are actually Transylvanians later in the movie as well.

tl;dr: It's an homage to the Wizard of Oz Richard O'Brien wanted to do. Also, it's a silly movie. :)
Source: Being in a cast and being obsessed with Rocky Trivia. Also, the Wiz-of-Oz version is a hidden easter egg on the 25th Anniversary DVD if I'm not mistaken.
