Okay, I'm not sure how to ask this without sounding totally condescending, but how old are you? Because Kat kind of strikes me as the kind of character who would soften a bit in college or maybe in the few years after- not because she would give up on the things that she believes in or lose that passion that drives her, but because she would start to understand that the world isn't black and white and that being that angry all the time doesn't actually fix anything. Lord knows that was what happened to me, and I was cut from the same cloth, pattern, and dye lot that Kat was when I was in high school/early college.

You don't need to be stupider. You don't need to be less feminist. Just learn to breathe and let things go, and don't expect it to happen all at once. And your Patrick is out there- you might take a while to find each other and he may not be what you expected, but he's out there.

Yeah, this! Some things you have the power to change, some you don't. You can keep being yourself without falling into the excesses Kat did. Sometimes being happy and a good person and a good friend is what it takes to make the world a better place. Sometimes being kind and patient is what changes other people and solves problems. You don't have to sacrifice what you believe in to change.

As others have said, this is about perfect. Plus, in college (and after, but especially in college) you'll be in prime position to meet other people like you. Which means not only boys, but just plain friends, and you'll be amazed how much that softens a person up, knowing they're not alone in what they believe and care about.

I then briefly overcorrected too far in the other direction and became a doormat, but that, predictably, didn't take, and eventually I got it sorted out and found a nice equilibrium. It's all about balance. I hope OP discovers this, too. :)

I felt the same for a long, long time. I still do, sometimes, ngl. It doesn't help that my twin is totally Bianca. But yeah, I was miserable and lonely and I hated myself for a long, long time.

Except I met this amazing girl who isn't my Patrick at all, except that she totally is. So, uh... hang in there, I guess.
