ngl, I kinda agree with this. I don't think people should have to pick one sex partner as a virgin, marry them and then hope the sex is good, or anything. But I think there's a giant arena of space between that and "I'll sleep with however many people (who want to sleep with me) as I want, however many times we want, whenever we want because it's FUN!" And it seems like a lot of people are advocating a dangerous level of promiscuity in the name of being sex positive.

It just doesn't seem like some things should be quite that casual.

But blah blah "You're just a prude-y puritan!" or whatever.

Driving a car can kill you too, but you don't see people judging each other for driving for the "wrong" reasons, now, do you?

Life has a 100% mortality rate. None of us will live forever, no matter how careful we are. All we can do is decide for ourselves what risks are worth taking and which aren't, and hope we aren't standing in the wrong place at the wrong time and get hit by a bus or something.

Yes, and unlike recreational sex, driving a car also serves a function beyond getting off. (And a lot of people DO judge race car drivers, jsyk.)

And yes, I do see a difference between getting into a car accident while you were driving somewhere to do something and getting pregnant or riddled with STDs because you were horny and couldn't control your horny-assed self.

Nah I agree with them. At least that it's a stupid reason. Is that the only part of the character worth emulating? That they're not a virgin?

Go ahead and have sex because you want. This just sounds like a weird excuse to rationalize why sex is OK to themselves.

There are just definitely reasons for people to have a sense of relief when it comes to losing virginity. Sex (to a lot of people, especially to teenagers) means someone wants you. It's positive attention. That's the simple, Dr. Phil reason.

But most people grow very uncomfortable with their own virgin status when the media around them is so very sex-focussed. It can easily look as if every 16-year-old has had sex but them. This is ridiculous, of course, but it adds to a growing sense of 'not belonging'. Especially in high school/freshman situations the word 'virgin' is something you don't want to be stamped.

Or, you know, just being the only one in a group of friends who doesn't have any sex-related anecdotes. There may not be any insult-flinging going on there, but people prone to insecurity have a hard time with all that stuff.
