God I wish MGS had just kept with the inexplicable supernatural elements instead of all the nanomachines bullshit in MGS4. The fact that they didn't even have a little bit of shame about it in MGS1 and 3 was part of what made those games so fucking good.

For that matter I'm also buttmad that they didn't follow through with Ocelot being legitimately possessed by Liquid Snake's arm. Stupid as it was back when SOL came at, at the very least MGS3 gave them a good excuse: Ocelot's father was a goddamn Ghost Whisperer.

Sorry I have... so many...... thoughts and feelings on this topic. :T

omg this. i thought i was the only one in the MGS fandom who felt this way! everyone else in the fandom keeps going on about how clever MGS4 was, and how genius Hideo Kojima is, and how more games should live up to MGS4's brilliance, etc etc etc.

and i'm just sitting there thinking, "wtf? did we play the same game?"

the weird unexplainable supernatural elements was one of the main reasons i adored the series. Vulcan Raven could control Ravens, Vamp was a vampire, The Sorrow was a ghost, etc. It was all silly fun that made no sense...and that's what made it so good. then MGS4 came along, and tried to explain it all. >_>

don't even get me started on Ocelot's arm note really being possessed by Liquid. yeah, that plot was silly, but it wasn't out of place in the series. and hearing Liquid's British accent coming out of Ocelot's mouth was hilarious. (plus i don't care about Snake and Ocelot's rivalry. i just wanted to see Snake and Liquid duke it out in MGS4. but nope, it was all just nanomachines)
