Telling an author "if you changed this part of a story, it would work better" does no good for a fic author, because the story is done, and they probably won't be telling that story again.

On one side, I agree. Once it's done and posted that's it and comments aren't going to change or help the story. But if I were writing a lot of fic, and I was making the same mistakes over and over, sometimes it would be nice to know so I could improve. Critiques aren't necessarily useful for the critiqued work, but they are useful when moving forward. You know what to do better the next time.

But yeah, after putting all that work into something, who wants to see it get ripped apart?
