Unless I was totally spaced out and misread all the text in my game AND my stragety guide.... Alder is the Champion. He was wandering because his first Pokemon died from an illness and he got kind of depressed. Did... people really not catch that?

huh, i thought alder WAS the champ. obv i was too bored with the story to pay much attention.

I thought N beat Alder and was therefore the champion when you fought him.

That whole thing made no sense to me. He beat the Champion, therefore he should be the Champion, right? But then he says Alder is still the Champion, and beating N didn't make me the Champion. o___0 Why???

The only thing I can possibly think of is that there was some reason why N technically didn't qualify to be the Champion. Maybe even if you beat the Champion, he/she has to approve you before you take over as leader. Maybe N didn't want to bother to register in the Hall of Fame. Maybe he didn't have all the badges or something. IDEK.

THAT's what I want explained.

(Oh, and Bulbapedia did say something like there was a line in the game that hinted that Alder was asked to become Champion instead of winning it through battle. But I don't know what that line would be and I don't remember getting that impression.)

Alder IS the Champion. He's just a really lax one with personal issues.

Although I suppose the question could be "why didn't Unova get a new champion rather than wait around for him to get his shit together?"
