I don't know, I think if it bothered you that much, at some point you had a responsibility to say "can we cool it with this please?" or something. Blame your friend for being annoying, but don't blame her "causing" you to stop liking a group because of your own inability to speak up.

OP: My friend is the kind of person who falls for something and obsesses over it to the extreme and also they are the kind of person to take offense to the littlest things. If I asked my friend to cool their obsession, they would get all mad at me and asking me why I had suddenly changed my tune about the group and would then get even more mad if I said it was because of their overplay.

OP: Yes but I've made it very clear I'm no longer into the group, not sharing their excitement over a new CD and declining to see the group when they were playing at a nearby venue. While I've been able to distance myself from the group, I'm more annoyed that my friend's fanaticness was what drove me away than because me friend continues to plague me with them.

OP: Fuck you, anon. You try having a friend play the same set of songs over and over again each and every day for weeks to months on end until the songs drive you up a fucking wall. Now whenever I think of my friend, all I can think of is this damn group and their fucking songs and it infuriates me that my friend had to taint them for me.

And I do mean heavy overplay. Not just heard a song or two every other day, I mean my friend would play their whole CD every time we were together. When I played my iPod for us to listen to and dance around, they would hijack it and put on this one group and get all pissed off if I tried to change it to something else.

I think I'm well within my right to be annoyed at my friend for turning me against the group.

Haha OP I had a friend like that. She used to listen to Murderdolls NON STOP and always went on about them. We were all fans but in the end we just couldn't stand hearing the name anymore!
We grew out of listening to them but she added me on FB recently and she's still super into them. I don't know how you can be so INTENSE about a band for so long, it would tire me out.
