I thought he was human - just, from the future.

He's human and from the 51st century. But he was born on a different planet because in that century humans scattered across the galaxy, so he could also be considered alien (as in not from earth.)

Plus by the time Jack was born, humans had intermarried so much there's no telling what might be in his background. I mean, he did imply that at one point he'd been pregnant, which human dudes can't do now. :-)

Well to be fair we don't now exactly what he was pregnant with. Given his sexual preferences, he might have picked an alien species with different reproductive rules.
