You're welcome! Black and white doesn't necessarily mean 'old' and 'boring'. Some of it is a stylistic choice, especially in modern films, and it can be quite beautiful, done right. (Or cheap, in regards to Clerks. Which is also a stylistic/budgetary choice.)

City Lights is an old Chaplin film- arguably his masterpiece- which decided against using sound, despite sound being widely available by the time he made it. This was because Chaplin wanted to keep the film as universally accessible as possible, crossing language barriers, literacy barriers, etc. I doubt that modern audiences would have the patience to sit through a silent film anymore, but using old techniques for good reasons is something that still ought to be respected, even as we develop new ways of making film.
