I loved both, but I can see why people would like either one or the other because they both felt very different.
Also, I wanted Pauline/Bernice to be canon LIKE BURNING.

I like the series, but prefer the film because I'm old enough to appreciate the filmic refs etc from my long-gone youth. *vbg*

I could understand liking one over the other but hating the show and loving the movie... leaves me a bit puzzled. It's the same humour and the same characters after all.

I don't hate the show, really. I just can't enjoy it, or get into it. I've tried a few times after watching the film and adoring it, and the dissonance always confused me.

I think it comes down to both concept and execution. I like the idea of characters meeting their writers, or writing themselves into other stories, I love the scene of the characters trying to give their creators ideas about love and happiness and vacations after years living in a crapsack village where everyone is either horrible or has horrible things happening to them. I loved that Hilary Briss was a Heroic Sociopath. I love that Mark Gatiss could manage to root out that Herr Lipp was posing as one of them through one line of fluent German. Herr Lipp found happiness in the harried life of Steve Pemberton. I like that the writers wrote themselves extremely unsympathetically, and the characters skulking about London. And Dr. Chinnery even managed to hold a bunny by the end of the film without it exploding!

Eh, it's just like any series that has various formats. Some people love all of it, and some only like bits and pieces. Personally, I find the radio show a bit dull for some reason.
