You're supposed to. And no, not because of Charles. He's a good reoccurring villain because he is relatable and makes you think what you would do in the same situation. He changes. He has emotions. He can relate to other people. He's not just villain of the week.

In various Elseworlds he led the X-Men, but he's often been part of the regular canon team and he is at the moment.

Especially since he's not always a villain. That's the best kind of bad guy - the bad guy who has motives that you understand and can even at times root for. Magneto is so fascinating because he's got such human motivations, reasonings, and attitudes and at times, he's even the good guy.

You're not alone there. I definitely think he's supposed to be at least somewhat relatable; both he & Charles really do have reasonable points.
