This is a good point. There was an episode with First Doctor where they were on some caveman planet and had an injured caveman-like man with them trying to escape. The episode shows the Doctor ready to smash his head in with a rock but is stopped. He also had one of the more higher levels of self-importance/Omg I am surrounded by morons of all incarnations.
Second Doctor* did the timey wimey mind wipy to Jamie (and Zoe?)so he'd forget all about his travels with the Doctor.
Three....haven't seen enough of his serial to judge here...(love his car Bessie)
Fourth Doctor basically dropped Sarah Jane off back on Earth against her will, and in the wrong country no less! Also haven't watched a lot of Four to determine his level of dickitude.
Fifth Doctor was one of the more remorseful from Old!Who (see- massive Adric guilt)
Sixth Doctor-..........needs no 'splaining.
Seventh- Yes, he was manipulative and it drove distance between him and his companions, and Ace calls him the HELL out for it in Curse of Fenric.
Eighth-....was awesome and amnesiac for half of it. Little to no dickitude here.
Nine- Hard on to kill Daleks, destroyed the rest of his kind and supposedly the Daleks.
Ten- While my favoritest, he had his dick move moments. Then there was that whole I AM THE ONCOMING STORM GOD COMPLEX a la Water of Mars.
Eleven- Not imperveous to dick moves.

Point is- the Doctor has always had a level of dickitude and arrogance from the first of 1963. It varies pending on each incarnation and we have to remember that a lot of the dick moves are motivated by sometimes impossible situations and the Doctor is acting in what he thinks is the only manner to proceed (which is how I saw the case in TGWW)
It's not all fun and games in the TARDIS, there are consequences for every companion who walks through the blue box doors. I am not saying the Doctor is right to be a dick, but it is part of the character and his experience.

*You know when I started to watch old!who i always assumed I'd be enamoured with Four like most fandom, but nope, I don't actually prefer Four (gasp!shock!) and find myself really more delighted with Second Doctor/Patrick Troughton. Matt Smith apparently likes him best as well and bases a lot of Eleven on Second. I totally see it.

I always thought it was Eight who "pushed the button" to end the Time War and that Nine was the result of that act.

The licensed works aren't allowed to touch the new TV show characters, so if we ever learn exactly when Eight regenerated, it'll have to be straight from the Beeb. I think that most people assume that Eight->Nine happened at the very end of the Time War, right before he met up with Rose (hence Nine's surprise at his face). But in any event, you can rest assured that, no matter which spin-off Eight you choose, he's guilty of all kinds of fucked up actions.

And another minor (friendly!) correction: the Donna-ing of Two's companions was done very much against his will! It was a part of his punishment for interfering, along with his "change of appearance." Dunno what sort of nastiness he's actually committed, as I don't know his serials that well.

Not to be picking fights or anything, I'm just a bit baffled; if you watched the Second Doctor then how did you get the idea that it was the Doctor who wiped Jamie and Zoe's minds? If you just haven't got to that episode yet then no worries, I just don't see how one could get that it was in Two's control.

If you want a good "What the Hell, Hero?" for the Second Doctor though then I'd have said manipulating Jamie in Evil of the Daleks was the best example.

The Time Lords wiped Jamie and Zoe's memories, not Two. (They both also retained the memories of their first respective adventures with the Doctor.)
