Sadly I fear it's just wishful thinking by now since they've been hinting pretty hard he's gonna be written off.

I'm with you. I'm not a Cas!girl myself but the overwhelming "kill him off now!" mentality I've heard from certain fans going so far back as season four is pretty annoying and far more petty to me.

But yeah, I also doubt he'll be around much longer. Magic Eight Ball seems to suggest it's pretty unlikely he's going to survive the first few episodes.

Damn straight I was! I'm a huge Lisa/Dean shipper. I wrote a diatribe on FS once because I loved Lisa and I like Ben and really was disturbed by all the hate they received from fandom.

There are some fans who seem to think that if anyone else is on screen for more than one episode, the show is no longer about Sam and Dean and that character needs to die off (unless that character is Bobby or Ellen, so I guess only older characters are okay with these fans). The show has always been about Sam and Dean, that has never changed. The show has also been about how the brothers interact with other characters, right since season 1. Most recurring characters, especially female ones, get hated on.

Whenever i read statements saying that NOW the show can finally get back to being about the brothers, i feel like tapping these people on the shoulder and asking them if Supernatural is the show they're talking about.

Bleh. I just hope he doesn't get written off the show because he could be a great character if the writers bothered to expand on him a little more than "he's the angel who sometimes helps the brothers" or "hey! let's turn him into the big-bad!"

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Which is a shame. It would be nice for the boys to have at least one friend who doesn't end up dead or wanting them dead. It's just a shame Castiel never got to be anything more than a helpful acquaintance.

I think that's the major issue with almost all the recurring characters. Rather than develop them and let them grow and contribute to the story, they get killed off early or somehow otherwise written out. Jo and Ellen, Lisa and Ben, Victor, Adam, John and Mary; all of them suffered from the same exact thing. That Castiel followed the same pattern disappoints me but I'm not at all surprised by it.

Though to be fair, they do still have Bobby. Which doesn't give me much comfort since I'm pretty neutral on Bobby, but still. He is a friend who is alive and doesn't want them dead. So at least there's the one of them? And I've got hopes that eventually Meg will turn into an ally, or at least be an antagonist who they have to occasionally team up with and can't kill off. That might just be my love of Meg coming up, though.

Funny, I'm the opposite. I don't care much about Cas one way or another, but the more weeping, OTT histrionics I read about how the show will be horrible without him and the ratings will go down and how dare they think about killing off Cas!! the more I think, "man, I hope they just kill him off and keep him gone."

And the misogynistic "I hope Sera Gamble dies in a fire," the "Give her job to Ben Edlund," the blameshifting Cas's actions onto other characters and constantly telling anyone who still enjoys the show they're wrong and have terrible taste and how dare they still watch if Castiel dies comments have made me hope he does fucking die so those gross people will leave fandom like they threaten to.
