See I can see Hermoine having kids, I always kinda got a motherly vibe from her, but Luna married is odd. I can't see her being tied down TBH, I always see her travelling the world.

The only way I can see Luna being married is if it's to an equally adventurous guy who wants to travel the world with her.

According to JKR she marries a naturalist (who's the grandson of the guy who wrote Fantastic Beasts) and they travel the world together looking for creatures.

It was to the grandson of Newt Scamander, Rolf. He was also a magizoologist so it's likely they did a lot of travelling seeing exotic magical creatures.

I could see Hermione having kids, but not straight out of school. so to me it would have made sense if her kids were much younger than Harry's. But see, visions on this differ.

I so completely agree.

[identity profile] cyren-2132.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Um...She didn't have kids straight out of school. There's like an 8-year time gap between leaving Hogwarts and having the first kid.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Well, to be fair, I'd expect Hermione to go to some for of higher education.

And 8 years on would still only make her mid-twenties, which is pretty darn young, considering the average age of having your first child is 29 in the UK.

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
There isn't higher education in the wizarding world, though.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
No, but her parents were dentists...sounds like fairly educated people. Surely she could go off to study for 3 or 4 ears and then return to her wizardly ways? It's not like it's mutually exclusive.

[identity profile] imagined-away.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always got of got the impression it was mutually exclusive after a while. That long with magic and it seem impossible to live without it again. (one more reason I've always thought summers for muggleborns must have been awful. Wizarding-family kids, regardless of if they should or not, get to use magic during the summer) I can't imagine Hermione going someplace where she can't use her magic for four years.

I figured she went through the training necessary for her job at the ministry and stayed in the wizarding world and probably lived with Ron (and maybe Harry) until they got married.

But, as always, to each their own.

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
But she wouldn't have the high school degree required to go the muggle college. And she would have no use for a college degree because she doesn't live in the muggle world.

[identity profile] cyren-2132.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
Keeping in mind that a) my perpsective is very American and b) I'm not really up on all the Interview Canon, this feels a lot like trying to paint the wizard experience as the muggle one, and I'm not sure how well that works. ARE there wizard universities, for lack of a better term? I seem to remember that very point being bandied around fandom, and the answer being aggravatingly inconclusive. But it would seem to me that, if there were opportunities for higher education within the wizarding world, Percy also would have been taking them. And I suppose Hermione could have gone off to a muggle university, but if she wanted to work in the wizarding world, why would she? She's already "behind" her peers by going back to Hogwarts (she did, right?) What would another 2, 3 or 4 years away accomplish in a world that does not seem to place much value on formal education post-Hogwarts?

And the thing about college is that it's very much a buffer between being an adolescent and an adult. Yes, college students are adults, but in general, it seems the reality of life as an adult student and life as an adult in the "real world" are very different animals.

In short, you ease into being a "grown up" in college (obvs not true for everyone), and are perhaps only just beginning to touch it when you graduate. But if there is no college to ease you into it -- and if you've literally been fighting in a warzone -- I think that's going to make adulthood different. It's going to make it faster. I think it's going to make 24 the equivalent of 29/30

But YMMV...

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
You make some good points (especially about the maturing early)

But Hermione always seemed to me someone who enjoyed learning - well, for the sake of learning. No, it possibly would not have gotten her "ahead" in the wizardly world, but it would have seemed consistent with her personality. So this is why I feel it would not have been a bad idea to make that distinction.

[identity profile] cyren-2132.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
That's a good point, too, but at the same time, I don't think continuing to learn things (or even to take classes in interesting subjects) is contingent on being a full-fledged student in an academic setting. I guess, I can definitely see where you're coming from, I just don't think what we got was necessarily wildly out of character or anything.
