I'm just saying, I'd rather love to see how Jewish vampires would have to deal with this, and how it would affect the whole vampiring thing, and I'm being totally serious. There was Greenberg the Vampire but it didn't really address the issue, he just kinda went on his vampire way.

I don't think a vampire would care too much about remaining kosher...considering they're the unholy undead and all that.

Depends on several factors.

1. if vampires are considered halachically dead, then the Jewish vampire would be able to eat blood, because dead people don't have to keep the commandments. Which kind of makes him no longer "Jewish", in a sense.

2. if vampires are not considered dead, and they cannot survive without eating blood, then it could fall under "pikuach nefesh", meaning that in order to save one's life one is allowed to go against commandments. So he'd be able to eat blood. Besides, he could eat fish blood, which is permitted.

3. if vampires are not considered dead, and don't actually need the blood to survive, then he's screwed, and he'd have to tough it out.

The bigger problem would be human victims, in the second case. I doubt that'd be considered okay.

I will confess to have thought about this before...
My family likes to get into stuff like this. We've talked about Jewish vampires, before, and even discussed it with a slightly-geeky rabbi friend. Good times XD

It's only a short story, but "Blood Libel" by Leigh Ann Hussey actually goes into that issue a bit.

Murdering people is also against Jewish law, so I doubt the blood would be an issue.
