Have you considered doing a little research? Before I decide if I want to get active in a fandom, I tend to cruise the fanart and all. With the Friendship is Magic fandom, everyone seems really laid back and cool, so you have nothing to fear. c:

I've seen it joked that to be a fan favorite character, all you need is three seconds screen time-- and to some degree, it's true. Minor background characters like Vinyl Scratch (DJ Pon-3), Doctor Whooves, Derpy Hooves and one shot characters like Trixie and Princess Luna are just as popular as the core cast!

tl;dr: Jump into the fandom and have a good time. :D
