Feeling weird defending a pretty bad movie but...

But people do like her. Danny liked her the whole time, despite his awful behavior when he met her again. Sandy's actual far more judgmental of him than he is of her for much of the movie.

Sandy is very conformist throughout the movie. At the end she changes more to what the Pink Ladies are like, but they're the non-conformist ones in the greater scheme of things. Sandy looks like all the other girls in the school, and other guys want to date her, like Lorenzo Lammas. Frenchie's also a pretty good friend to her throughout.
