Cheesy as it is (that's one of Disney's favorite tropes), Snow White stays alive because of her heart. She stays alive because the hunter can't bear to kill her. She stays alive because she finds a nice home to help her recover from her stepmother turning against her. She stays alive because the prince loves her enough to bring her back to life.

She may not be aggressive, but she's still a good heroine. She gets understandably scared of everything around her when she realizes the home she had was a lie. She gets over it soon after. She blindly trusts the hag, which is stupid, yes, but characters should be flawed.

I think that Snow White is also one of the younger Princesses. At least, I always thought she was supposed to be around 13 or 14 when the Queen sent her into the woods.

That too. The more recent princesses are closer to adults. Snow White had just become a teenager.
