I saw the show completely new to the story (I had never heard the music before) and I loved my first phantom (Brad Little). When I bought the OLC, it was quite a shock. MC really had to grow on me because his voice is so different but now I love him. His voice may not be everyone's tastes but his portrayal and understanding of the character has defined how the role has been played for over two decades.
Heck even twenty year old, grainy boots can bring a tear to my eye. Man had soul.
