also what Gam/Tav thing? THERE IS NO THING. Not more than a one-sided one, anyway. Tavros's reaction to Gamzee's overtures is just about comparable to John's reaction to Karkat's. Heck, Tavros seemed to take it worse than John did, even.

Yeah, I went there. I think Tavros is more straight than John (as straight as you can be when your species is pansexual, anyway).

I dunno. We only saw one panel of Tavros's reaction, and that was just surprise. I think it is too soon to tell if it is positive or negative surprise.

Definitely.

I think John and Tavros are actually really similar in some ways when it comes to romantic relationships. They both come across as people who really haven't thought about it at all, who're very sexually unaware (John's celebrity crush on Liv Tyler, if that counts, aside).

You know, this really highlights the hypocrisy of some of these fans.

Tavros can't be straight because his species is bisexual.
Kanaya can be a lesbian, even though her species is bisexual.

I think it's more that you can't really say a species is bisexual if one-sixth of a sample isn't.

Wait, why is that? Both are extremes where the person defines themselves as only being attracted to one sex. If someone is lesbian, they're not bisexual. If Kanaya can define herself as only being attracted to one sex despite her species being bisexual, then Tavros can define himself as straight. Not dictating someone's sexuality to them goes both ways - you can't tell people who define themselves as straight that they're 'wrong' about themselves any more than you can tell that to someone who defines themselves as gay, because we are allowed to define our sexualities how we please regardless of what you think.

Basically, if both Kanaya and Tavros are ONLY ATTRACTED TO WOMEN, why do you respect that Kanaya is lesbian but not that Tavros is straight? That's incredibly condescending...

(not saying Tav is straight, but just for the sake of this argument. I think you need to examine some prejudice if you truly think that people in this society are allowed to define themselves as gay, but straight just omg can't exist even if people claim they are. You seem to respect people's right to define themselves as gay, but not to define themselves as straight)

That's exactly what I was getting at. Not sure if you saw my sarcasm though. :(

I'm not saying Tavros couldn't identify as "straight" as far as a human would define it, but I won't say he is, either. In fact we haven't even seen much of how he feels about other trolls; all we've ever seen Tavs do is freak out (Oh Tavros, y u so adorable and naive, abububu).

Basically I was just pointing out how hypocritical it would be to defend the notion that Kanaya can be a lesbian, but not that another oddity - attracted to only the opposite sex - could exist too. Tavros was just a convenient example to use, considering this thread.

ok i'm kind of a noob when it comes to this but was there a point in the series when kanaya "defined" herself as only being attracted to women?? i mean i was under the impression that the CONCEPT didn't really exist in troll society. which means that i don't think anyone will get on her case for it, but she's not likely to "define" herself either?

idk, i get that she's only canonically shown/implied interest in ladies, and i really don't know why you would ship her with any of the boys, but... i don't really get the SHE'S A LESBIAN BECAUSE SHE DEFINES HERSELF THAT WAY argument when i don't believe she's ever done that?? yeah. i don't think you need to insist she's a canon lesbian in order to prove that shipping her with boys is dumb lol.
