Yes! Mostly with fan art, though recently I've seen more and more "illustrated" stories using stock pictures and original graphics and such, and some are really quite creative. I don't know what the OP's deal is but personally, I love adding a visual dimension to my reading experience. Ah well.

Huh. That's weird. I feel like I hardly ever see that, but I love the idea. Over at erik_charles we did a summer fic exchange and artists signed up to do works for the stories, and I am beyond stoked to see what the artist comes up with for my story. It just brings it more to life, ya know?

I see it a lot in Inception fandom, which is especially cool because of the nature of the source material (and all the beautiful, well-dressed people in it). For me, anyway.
