(Anonymous) 2011-09-23 05:35 am (UTC)(link)Wait, what? What does this secret have to do with a lack of South Korean exposure to Americans and American media? If anything, it's more likely that the influence of American media (especially if we're referencing the army base) that has contributed to the stereotypes presented in the secret.
This isn't something that's only offensive in America, or offensive because of race relations in American history. This action is pretty widely considered offensive by the standards of many countries. These aren't just South Koreans dressing up as Saudis; they are being deliberately over-the-top and offensive with harmful stereotypes. I don't see how anybody can justify that as being part of one's culture, because I'm pretty sure it's nobody's sacred time-honored proud tradition to mock other countries on TV.
