Mostly, I was just wondering if it was me that was different or if its a 'kids these days' that are different. But also mostly just wondering why the fuck I had such a huge ass mother effing crush on Matthew Lillard...of all people...

Kids in those days had young celebrities to crush on; kids these days have young celebrities to crush on. Some of the kids in those days crushed on older celebrities; some of the kids these days crush on older celebrities. It's not really different.

I don't recall many younger celebrities to have crushes on when I was younger. Most of my friends had celebrity crushes on guys that were at least 4 years older than them. I think the fact that teens in movies were often played by actors in their 20s and 30s might have had something to do with it. I seem to remember when I was 15 I could either drool over the hot 25 year old or the cute obnoxious 12 year old...

And no shame for having a crush on Matthew Lillard. He may have played goofy characters, but he was no ugly duckling and had a solid body. ;)

I'm quite a bit older than you and back when I was a teen, teen heartthrobs more or less didn't exist so I crushed on a celeb who was 14 years older than me. I often think this is a good thing because it helps keeps things in perspective: I was obviously never going to marry this man. Unlike kids these days who are so delusional about Justin Bieber and hate Selena Gomez for taking their guy away from them. As if.

i just said that even though it seems like a harmless generalization, that kind of thing can be hurtful and it would be better if you said something like "13 year olds" in which people could make the inference that you meant "13 year olds into dudes"

and then you wouldn't be synonymizing the idea of "girls" with "people who like dudes"

Holy crap it's Matthew Lillard! Unf! Loved that pic of him. I had a huge crush on him when I was 13 and he must have been at least 5 years older than me. Most of the guys I liked when I was a teen were well into their 20s. Now that I'm in my 20s any celebrity I find attractive is well into their 30s.
