It's an easy, cartoony way to get across the 3-D aspect of a nose and the shiny tip at the end of a nose. Done well, it gives a face color and I can go oh, okay, it's a style, whatevs.

Done badly, it looks like the ugliest fucking acne boil you ever saw.
