That is the exact reason I haven't watched/read so many things my friends have tried to get me into. The more they don't shut up about how AMAZING it is, the less likely I am to indulge.

I still don't get this. Unless you already know that you and your friends have completely different tastes, wouldn't their recommendation be all the more reason to check something out? You're not under any obligation to love it if you do, you know. To me, the attitude of 'I won't look at this thing because you like it/think I might do too' is... kinda hurtful, really.

Yeah, maybe I get too emotionally invested in stuff too. But rejecting something *purely* because I like and recommend it... it's kinda hard not to take that a bit personally.

Well, at least for me, there is a difference between a friend recommending something and fangirlorgasming all over something at me. Like, I do have friends who will go along the lines of "Hey, I think you would enjoy X because we also enjoy Y. If you are interested, I will let you borrow X to check it out!". But then I have friends who are "HOW HAVE YOU NOW WATCHED/READ/HEARD X YET?! OMG IT IS THE BEST THING TO HAVE EVER BEEN CREATED EVER!! HERE, TAKE IT NOW AND FALL IN LOVE!!". I just personally get put off of something if someone is always hyping it up, but that's me being weird about things. I feel you on the taking it a bit personally though.
