Those hobbies you listed are generally considered even by those who indulge in them to be not so very serious pursuits. Would some people go as far as to say that they're "goofy"? Sure. (Karaoke especially, I can't believe you even cited that.) Most would probably acknowledge that it's in the spirit of fun. Which doesn't mean people don't become invested and passionate about it, but it's more about invested in having a good time than nurturing a sense of self-importance.

Why does it have to be about nursing a sense of self-importance? Why are the two extremes here goofy-ass and butt hurt? Most people I know who write fanfic do not think of it as a goofy little hobby. But most people I know also aren't insanely uptight about it. Why are you getting invested in defining what this habit means for other people?

Because when asked why they write fanfic, a lot of people do in fact say, "Because it's fun." And if they're me, they probably will add things like "it connects me to other fans" or "it's good practice" but none of these things preclude the fun aspect. I mean, this isn't just me trying to define anything, it's what many of us who fic actually think. People are getting defensive because the OP used the word "goofy" and that can carry negative connotations, but few would disagree that they acknowledge this to be a well-loved but not-too-serious hobby. Nuances.
